Sales Engineer

The Sales Engineer provides critical support to our Sales and Customer Success Departments. An expert on the Topica application and related services, this individual will answer presales questions, lead technical product demos and assist in technical customer implementations.

This position requires someone with a blend of technical aptitude and the ability to understand and communicate complicated ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. The applicant must be capable of interacting with individuals in many different departments and possess a genuine desire to help customers succeed. The Topica Sales Engineer should have experience manipulating large data files and understanding of common Internet technologies.

This is a brand new position to Topica and reports to the Manager of Customer Success Engineering. The Sales Engineer will be key member of a small, but growing team in a dynamic company. There is great opportunity for career growth!


  • Support Sales by leading technical product demos for prospects and fielding presales questions
  • Assist Customer Success with technical customer implementation issues, examples include questions regarding complicated data manipulation or assistance in applying JavaScript code to customers’ websites
  • Work with Product Management to disseminate new product information to Customer Success and Sales and act as liaison for new feature requests from Sales & customers
  • Lend support to Development team to QA new product features as needed

  • 3 yrs HTML experience
  • 2 yrs sales, customer training, support or similar experience
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
  • A quick learner able to find simple solutions for complicated problems
  • Practical grasp of database concepts and experience working with data
  • Understanding of Internet protocols and tools: HTTP, FTP, SSH
  • Some combination of experience with UNIX, Perl, Java and/or JavaScript

  • Email industry experience
  • Experience using Salesforce
